Laptop and school

Yes, the laptop has arrived and it is amazing! It was all set up and all I needed to do is add my Internet connection. That was a bit difficult because in the past, when I have done the kids’ laptop, theirs did not have a wireless network card installed and you had to run the disk that came with the card. But mine came with a card already installed and that was new to me. It showed that the connection was excellent but I could not get onto the internet. Anyway I got it sorted in the end with help from my son. It meant running that dreadful Command Prompt..I hate using that and finding the physical address of the laptop. I wonder how people who get a laptop like this manage when they don’t have somebody who can help!

Long day at school today! I taught all day and then we had a meeting after school. And that was so incredibly depressing! We’ve failed Ofsted and our Department among others is one of the failing ones. So today the Head announced that we would be monitored continuously. I will spare you all the nitty gritty..suffice it to say that there will be even more forms to fill, people watching us and us watching them in a game of the blind leading the blind because I am not too sure what I can learn from watching let’s say a Technology lesson! We are also asked to write a report on what we have observed..suddenly me from a failing department am able to pass judgement on others’ lessons! And with no training whatsoever! I find it more and more difficult to accept that us the teachers are to blame for all the problems in the school! Provide more interesting lessons and the kids will behave! Duh! That’s got to be a joke! My kids went to selective schools, I don’t think they were ever entertained, their lessons were probably quite boring by Ofsted standards but they got extremely good grades in all subjects! What is it they say..you can take a horse to water etc… Ian has got another one about a silk purse out of a sow’s ear or something similar but that is it in a nutshell! So I will be leaving because I cannot stand working in such an environment. It is stressful, demoralizing. I will miss it, no I will miss the kids because despite all this, the great majority are nice kids but we have got some difficult ones and they do spoil it for all! On a different subject..my mebership at Roxane’s was expiring on the 13th and she had a special offer on because she has been opened one year now so I took advantage of it and went for Lifetime. I like her site because she works hard and updates regularly.

How to waste a morning!

I have the day off today and I have wasted the whole morning installing a program: A members’ program for PSP 4 ALL that I then decided against using after setting it all up! So in the meantime it had deleted all my list of members and access codes so I have had to add them manually one by one! Still at least it made me realize that maybe the list wasn’t totally correct. So time for a roll-call!
You would not believe how cold it is. They said in the paper that last year at this time it was 20°C. Well today it is no more than 6°C. And there are hardly any daffodils out! You only see a few here and there!

I am getting a new laptop! I am so excited! It’s a Dell.
Here’s a picture and some info:

Quiz: How people see you!

Current Mood:Esctatic emoticon Esctatic

Updated this blog to WP 2.0.2 using Fantastico. I’ll do the others tomorrow because they take a bit longer. I have to add the language thingies so they are all in French.
A little quiz to finish off a difficult week!
Slow and Steady

Your friends see you as painstaking and fussy.

They see you as very cautious, extremely careful, a slow and steady plodder.

It’d really surprise them if you ever did something impulsively or on the spur of the moment.

They expect you to examine everything carefully from every angle and then usually decide against it.
